The Population II Cepheid-TRGB offset (Population II Cepheids have periods ≤ 20 days, intrinsic magnitude ~−2 to −3) provides a secondary rung; when calibrated against TRGB-anchored galaxies, Pop II Cepheid distances in M31 and M33 show ~5% agreement with TRGB but limited sample sizes restrict statistical power.
