Distance measurements from the local distance ladder rely on a calibration chain: parallax → LMC → SMC → Cepheids in nearby galaxies → SNe Ia; systematic uncertainties at each step compound, with total geometric uncertainty now ~0.75% from parallax alone but host metallicity systematics contribute additively ~1.5-2%.
